Goodyear MTR with Kevlar
What makes this a great off road tire video
Go bigger or go home!
Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac
Another good tire review. More heavy duty than the MTR
The two biggest improvements you can do to help with off road capability is to get new off road tires and a Johnson Rod lift kit. Good traction and ground clearance are key elemements to tackling tough trails and limiting vehicle damage. With Johnson Rods you can get a larger more agressive tire and have an additional 2.5 inches of clearance. This is the best investment for off road trails and adventure. Your vehicle will look better and perform better!

Will Bigger Tires Rub?
Without a Johnson Rod lift kit, tires 31 inches and larger will start to rub. To have a larger tire a lift kit is a must. Although you can stuff a larger tire into the wheel well without a lift, it will look terrible taking up all the space and perform bad off road. My preference is for a 32 inch tire for the LR3 and 31.5 for the LR4. I have found this to be a perfect size for off road use and it leaves some room with the lift for the wheel to articulate. Some choose to go smaller and that's fine depending on your objectives.
If your are running larger t tires, check out your chassis to see if you have this sensor wire. If you have it, move it, as it could be rubbed through in a hard right turn with larger than stock tires. Itís in the driverís side front wheel wheel, just aft of the suspension a-arms. Itís a sensor wire, and on some LR3ís the wire is on the side of the frame. On other LR3ís, its routed along the top of the frame and nicely out of the way. If yours looks like the picture below, you are going to want to move it. Itís simple to do. Just pull the clip out of the slot in the frame, route it to the top of frame, and pop it into the hole that youíll find up there. Or tape it, or ziptie it, whatever works. Simple!

Johnson Rods recommends not exceeding 32 inches for the LR3 and 31.5 inches for the LR4 to minimize tire rub. Larger sizes may require other modifications such trimming plastic or metal. Fitment can vary depending on tire selection and wheel size. Chart is for size reference only.
